Announcement from D4

Respect in hockey is one of the fundamental aspects of the sport that we all love. District 4 is committed to creating a safe community for our membership where we all can work together to create a positive and welcoming environment for all those who participate in hockey.

Dear District 4 Coaches, Players and Parents

Since the start of the 2021-22 hockey season, District 4 has been leading all categories in terms of penalties and suspensions at the competitive and house levels for all of Hockey Eastern Ontario. Gross misconducts are at the highest. This includes travesty of the games, obscene gestures and more particularly, discriminatory slurs. The District will no longer tolerate foul language and inappropriate behavior on the ice along with the vast number of other TTM infractions incurred.

Respect in hockey is one of the fundamental aspects of the sport that we all love. District 4 Is committed to creating a safe community for our membership where we all can work together to create a positive and welcoming environment for all those who participate in hockey. Principles of fair play, respect and keeping will allow us to build hockey as a platform for change where positive values can be fostered, and important life skills can be developed.

Starting today, to help foster this change, all TTM infractions could come with further sanctions by District 4. All TTM infractions will be reviewed on case-by-case basis by the Chair (myself, Vice Chair (Glenn), Risk & Safety (Chris), Hockey Ops (Steve), RIC (Lou), and the LCMHL President (Tom-when his LCMHL duties allow him to participate). What this means is that team official and player gross misconducts could now incur additional games on top of the minimum game suspension outlined in the HEO Code of Discipline. For example, a Discriminatory Slur which results in 5 games and a HEO hearing, could now be 7 games and a HEO hearing.

The District thanks in you in advance for helping us to create a safer and more inclusive environment for all those who participate in hockey.

Yours in Hockey,

Del Brown District 4 Chair - Rideau Carleton
Hockey Eastern Ontario
