Coach's Letter

Hello, my name is Scott Ryan, and I am pleased to have been selected as this year's U12 Head Coach. I am looking forward to working with this year’s group of young athletes. I want to build on the foundation that has brought them this far and get them out of their comfort zone so they can excel as individuals and more importantly as a team in the upcoming 2023/24 season.
 
It is important to me to create a safe, respectful, and fun environment so the kids have the best chance to grow and improve their skills. The coaching staff and I will stress the importance of fair play, accountability and being good teammates. We will stress the importance of treating coaches, teammates, parents, officials, and opponents with respect. The kids will be given equal opportunity to develop their skills in all areas and situations of the game.
 
Practices will be fast paced, and skill oriented to allow the kids to develop their fundamental skills. We will focus on skating technique, edge/body control, small area play, battling, communication, responsibility, and teamwork, giving them the tools, they need to make decisions during the game. Reading and reacting to in-game situations will be an important aspect of the game that we will build on this season. We hope this will translate into a successful season where the kids can be proud of their team success and their individual improvements and accomplishments.
 
I have booked the following tournaments and plan to book another local tournament.
 
South Simcoe Storm Classic - Bradford (October 13-15)
International Silver Stick – Northumberland – (December 1-3)
Bell Capital Cup – December 27, 2023 – January 1, 2024
 
I encourage all of you to come to tryouts for this year’s team.  I look forward to a competitive tryout and wish you all success in the process. Keep an eye on the MTK website for information about the Summer Skates
