Coach's Letter

Thank you to all those who express interest in the MTK U16 Team. My name is Josh Richmond I joined the MTK family last season as an assistant coach with the U15 team and am now returning as a first-time head coach, I’m very excited to have the opportunity to learn and grow with the players as Head Coach of the Mississippi Thunder Kings U16 team this upcoming 2023-24 season.

As these boys are quickly turning from boys into young men this season will be focused on developing their skills on the ice but as well as guiding them through a confusing and continuously changing time in their life off the ice by creating an environment based on hard work, accountability, and respect. As players are choosing to tryout; I expect them to be committed to their decisions and show up ready to work everyday. Practices will be fast paced with a mix of skills, gameplay, and systems. As well I am planning on setting up off ice workouts 1-2 days a week for the earl part of the season. We will also be utilizing the MTK association allocated funds for goalie specific development and player development sessions throughout the season.

I will be looking for coachable players with positive attitudes and a strong work ethics. Players will be offered the opportunity to have fun practices every so often as rewards for hard work, accountability, and commitment; Work Hard, Play Hard.  As a coach, I will be looking to build a team where hard work comes first.  Teamwork, leadership, and communication skills from players will be a focus to help build team culture.  I am very competitive and expect all players to buy into a team first mentality.
