The Minor Bantam Team comes from behind to win the Sudbury Silver Stick Regional Qualifier!!!

2009-12-16

After what can only be described as a suprising round robin the boys put on their game faces and showed the kids from the North what they are really made of...

During the round robin, game one found the boys on the losing end of a 3-0 game to the Stouffiville Clippers. This was followed by losses to the Walden devils 2-1 and then a really suprising 9-3 loss to the local East Valley rebels. With only four teams in the division all teams advanced to a semi final game which saw the MTK boys playing the top ranked Clippers who had gone undefeated with only one goal against for the tournament. MTK quickly set the pace and showed that they had come to win the stick and with a couple in the net we were on our way to a "suprise" victory. The Clippers put on a strong show at the end of the third but the net minding of Mills was too strong and MTK emerged the victor with a 4-3 win!
On to the final and a meeting with the local East Valley Rebels.  After the 9-3 defeat the boys seemed determined to to show their opponents what this team was really made of. The Rebels came out Strong but the excellent goaltending of MacMartin shut them down. Then the boys let loose with 4 quick unanswered goals ( two of which were shorthanded!) A scare at the end of the second found player 16 on a stretcher heading to the local hospital after recieving a very solid check in the offensive zone. This seemed to only motivate the MTK boys more and rallies of "Dustin Penner" were heard from the locker room. The boys came out after the flood and played to a 6-1 finish thouroughly suprising the local team. The event as a whole started of rocky but as the weekend progressed the team clearly began to jell and become what they always knew they were a "team" of champions.
Well done boys and we look forward to the International Silver Stick in Newmarket come January!
