2009-2010 Playoffs Format

Extracted from the B league rule document PLAYOFFS...

a. The Playoff Structure for 2009-2010 has been modified and will be played as follows.

b. Regular Season Champions will be deemed League Champions.

c. Playoff Winner will be deemed Playoff Champions.

d. The TOP 8 TEAMS IN EACH DIVISION will be selected to participate in an ‘A POOL CHAMPIONSHIP’ Tournament Style Playoff System.

i. A weighted average system will seed the top 8 teams to a ROUND ROBIN that will have the ease of schedule set by your finishing position in the regular season. (See Appendix B)

ii. Teams will play 3 Round Robin games to determine the top 4 teams who will advance to the Semi Finals (Semi Finals held after March Break)

iii. Round Robin Games are times as usual, THERE IS NO OVERTIME IN ROUND ROBIN GAMES.

iv. The 4 Teams participating in the Semi Finals will be reduced through a second round robin playoff to establish the 2 finalists.

v. Tie Breaking for League Play is as follows (Determine seeding for first playoff Round Robin Round)

1. Total Wins in League Play.

2. League Play Win/Loss Record against each other.

3. Differential in Goals for and Against in League Play.

4. Goals for and Against Each other.

5. First Goal scored in Last Game against each other.

vi. Round Robin – To Semi Final Tie Breaking Rules

1. Total Wins in Round Robin

2. Win/Loss Record between teams in Round Robin.

3. Differential of Goals For / Over/ Goals For + Goals Against.

4. Least Penalty Minutes.

5. Coin Toss

vii. Final Game -

1. FIRST OVERTIME PERIOD IS 5 ON 5 HOCKEY. (5 Minutes)

2. 2ND OVERTIME PERIOD IS 4 ON 4 HOCKEY. (5 Minutes)

a. If one team is assessed 2 or more penalties. The NON PENALIZED TEAM will add a player to play 5-3, and the penalized players will return to the ice when their penalty expires. AFTER THE FIRST WHISTLE FOR STOPPAGE OF PLAY.. THE TEAMS WILL RETURN TO 4-4 HOCKEY.

3. 3RD OVERTIME AND ALL CONSECUTIVE OVERTIMES ARE 3 ON 3 HOCKEY. (5 Minute Periods)

a. If a Penalty is assessed during the 3 on 3. The NON penalized team will add a 4th player and play 4-3

UNTIL THE FIRST WHISTLE AFTER THE PENALTY HAS EXPIRED. At this time the teams

will return to 3-3 hockey.

b. THE PENALIZED PLAYER will return to the ice when their penalty expired and play 4 on 4 hockey until the first whistle.

c. If multiple penalties requiring a 5-3 situation is required.. the NON PENALIZED team will play 5-3 and the players will return when their penalty expires. After the first whistle teams will return to 3-3 hockey.

d. Off setting penalties will keep play at 3-3 and the players will return to the bench after the first

whistle after their penalties have expired and the game will continue as 3-3 hockey.

4. THERE IS NO SHOOTOUT TO DETIRMIN A CHAMPION.

a. The Teams not Selected to the A Pool Championship will be invited to participate in a ‘B Pool Championship’.

b. The B Pool will be scheduled by the B league if the conveners determine there is enough participation at their level (Minimum 4 teams)
